Attention, my running, cycling, and walking friends!
You can raise awareness - and even money - for a great cause (one of many, actually - you choose) while you're out doing what you're already doing: exercising.
Charity Miles is a free app (iPhone and Android) that you use while you're walking/running/cycling outside. It tracks your distance and thanks to corporate sponsors, money is donated to charity: 25 cents per mile for runners/walkers, 10 cents per mile for cyclists.
I love using this app when I run. I haven't had problems with it, and I love seeing not only the distance I ran but also the impact my workout had in real terms (X number of life-saving vaccines delivered to children who need them).
Check out this quick video:
You can choose from many charities. If you're on the lookout for one, I'd like to suggest Shot@Life, which raises awareness and funds for life-saving vaccines for children around the world. This is the group with whom I went to Uganda last October, and I'm excited to be working with them this year. (If you'd like to learn more about Shot@Life, please add your voice by clicking here and please let them know I sent you.)
OH, and I received an email last week and learned that Charity Miles won the SXSW People's Choice Award. Awesome.
So, if you're out* and about, moving around, even walking your kids to and from school, please download this app and USE IT. Do some good for others while you're doing good for yourself.
*yes, OUT. Because it won't work if you're on a treadmill.
