confused and grateful

I don't really know what I should say about this, and I've even written and deleted a few things about it over the past few days, not knowing exactly what to post, but I need to say something, so here it is:

I'm really glad my brothers are alive.

Maybe that seems like a silly thing to feel prompted to say. But last week, some guy left his own campus, in Champaign, Illinois (where my brother goes to school), and drove to another campus in DeKalb, Illinois (where my [step]brother goes to school), and shot a bunch of people. The shooting was at the end of a geology lecture, and my brother happens to be a grad student studying --you guessed it -- geology. He wasn't at this particular lecture, thank heavens.

And so. Since Hallmark (presumably) doesn't make a card for such an occassion, I'll say to James and Luke: I love you. I'm glad you're safe.

Didn't you go to EFY at NIU? Have you wondered if you were in the lecture hall where that took place? The school is in the stake where I grew up (as you know) and one of my friends was working as one of the police dispatchers on campus when that happened. Maybe I'll forward his email to you. I knew about James, didn't know about Luke. I'm glad they are safe, esp. considering the field of study for Luke... and I am glad he wasn't the grad student who happened to be teaching.

loves!

I hate it when these tragedies hit so close to home. So glad James and Luke are safe.

ckscj - No, I never went to EFY at NIU, but I did drive my brother & sister there (it was the first year I was too old to go), so I've been to that campus.

It's all just so creepy and sad.

Okay I was sick to my stomach when I started reading this but felt much better learning the outcome for your family. What a tragedy - I'm so glad your brothers are okay. Big sisters feel so protective, don't we?

um, i thought we went to the efy at depauw university. the one you took us to in the cheesehole. and the grad student that was teaching was a friend of luke's. he was the first shot and expected to fully recover.

I don't know Luke, so I can't speak for him, but James is pretty much indestructible.

Either way, I am glad that your brothers are alive as well.

beans - efy at depaw? In Greencastle? Nope -- it was NIU. I stayed in Palatine while you were in DeKalb.

I'm glad Luke's friend will be okay.

I'm relieved to know they're OK. It's such a sad, sad story.
