de-cluttering

Here are a few random things to liven up your hump-day:

~THANK YOU to all who have asked about how my son is doing. He's great. As it turns out, he didn't have to be sedated for his head CT, and the results of said test are: he's fine. Thank you for your concern.

~I am a scaredy cat. I do watch one scary thing on a regular basis, though: Criminal Minds. Do you watch this? If you do, you probably think that it's not all that scary. For me, it's terrifying. I watch it because I got hooked on the story line when my sister was here in February, helping me as I recovered from my surgery. I fast-forward through graphic scenes, and -- I am not lying -- I physically shake from being so frightened. My legs are the worst: they shake uncontrollably. I usually have a few blankets on my lap, though, as I'm watching, so when Darin watches with me, he doesn't notice the shaking. Last Wednesday, li'l ~j. was awake, and since the storyline of that particular episode was fairly benign, we let her watch it with us. Towards the end of the show, she said to me, "Will you stop it? Your legs are knocking on me." I told her that I can't help it, and she didn't believe me. And then it continued. Apparently this was hilarious. I looked to Darin for some backup, who first asked, "Are you serious?" but he shrugged and told me, "I'm afraid I'm with li'l ~j. on this one." I paused the show and let them have their laughs, and, since I'm pregnant, I almost started crying.

~ I went Black Friday shopping, as I usually do, but this year was different. I woke up at 2 and left at 2:30 to go stand in line at Kohl's, which opened at 4. While I was in the top 30 standing in line, I was only in the top 100 of getting into the store. One woman actually climbed over my cart -- physically climbed over my cart to get to a shelf of toys. So while she was over my cart, I pushed it around a little bit and pretended I couldn't help it because of all the people. Tee hee. I was out of there by 4:20 (AWESOME!), so I went to Sears. I was home and back asleep by 5:50. Very, very successful.

~While I was standing in line outside on that Friday morning, I was cold. But I realized that it could have been worse -- that there could have been a breeze. I also realized that it was downright balmy compared to where my stepbrother has been for the last couple of months.

~Speaking of how cold my siblings can be, did you read this?

Happy Birthday today to Jon Stewart, Anna Nicole Smith (m.s.r.i.p.), Judd Nelson, Paul Shaffer, and my husband.

~Curly got her ears pierced on Monday. When li'l ~j., who does not have her ears pierced, got home from school, we talked about it a bit. I asked li'l ~j. if she thinks that she'd now like to get her ears pierced, and this is what followed:

li'l ~j.: No WAY! That would hurt too much.

Curly: Mommy, she's so scared! She's the first one to be so afraid of ears!

moi: Well, Curly, everyone is different. For instance something could hurt li'l ~j. a lot, but not hurt you all that much.

li'l ~j., without missing a beat: Yeah, or like, someone like Mommy could get really, really scared watching a movie that isn't scary at all, like Criminal Minds . . .

Excellent--that discussion about being afraid...don't you love it when kids are wise beyond their years (or ours, for that matter?)

X-Files used to be that way for me, too.

We still make fun of my mom for stuff that happened years ago. We should stop that; it's mean.

HAPPY Birthday Big D!

That li'l ~j is quick on the draw. So is your sister. You'd think they were related...

I've never had my ears pierced--and I don't plan to in the future. Two less holes in my body to have to take care of. (Sorry, that sounds kind of gross, but what do you expect from Sis. Pottymouth?)

Jen, you make me laugh.

BTW. I love idea about getting your ornament and jammies BEFORE Christmas Eve..we are totally doing that from now on. It makes so much more sense.

Glad little man is fine. How are you feeling?

I'm still too worried about the pain to get my ears pierced.

I can't even watch scary movie previews without getting scared.

Your sister is BRILLIANT.

Li'l ~j is hilarious.

Dying to know what you did for your hubby's birthday.

Glad you've got smart little girls in your corner, and vice versa.

Glad that little man is well. Are you?

Did Harry Potter scare you? I know it scares the crap out of me (for reasons only a chosen few would understand)

Happy belated D!

cw - They are wise...I'm surprised at most things that come out of their mouths.

lucky - Maybe you and I just like to say hump.

azu - I only ever watched x-files once, and I fell asleep. Thanks for the bday wishes!

julie - So now I'm curious: are you against your daughter getting her ears pierced? Or will you let her decide?

bek - thanks! I'm feeling fine. I keep forgetting that I'm pregnant, except for my enlarged body, my clumsiness, and the fact that I occassionally feel the baby move. Go figure.

tori - thanks! I can't wait to read the rest of your tale (although I guess we could have just asked JC the details when he called the other day...tee hee!).

queen - same question: are you opposed to your girls getting their ears pierced? I'm glad you're with me on the scared...I just don't think it's thrilling. At all. For his bday, we got him a new electric shaver and a watch, and dinner was tortilla soup, and cake was pie. He also took the day off from work to work on his dissertation, which in a way is a gift to me, too.

kristen - yes! I'll be there! I look forward to it each year. I can't wait to see you! I love seeing the photos you post of your beautiful kids.

geo - thanks! Yes, I'm doing well. Can't shake the tired, but I don't mind.

sue - the books? Or the movies? No. I found them thrilling. Except for the movies, which I found stupid.

Nope - not opposed to them getting their ears pierced - but I am not going to force it on them...nor do I want them to get them pierced because "everyone else does". I'm thinking... they should choose when they know who they are... wow - that's vague. ;-)

I don't pierce them... because I just don't to deal with the hassle. Plus... I rarely notice earrings anyway.

YES... I don't get the thrill of scaring the s&*$ out of oneself. ;-)

Good luck with the big Dissertation!

Hmmm. Good question. I'm not opposed to pierced ears, so I guess I'll be letting her make the decision on her own. But I think I'll encourage her to wait until she's older. I don't know. I think that's one I'll have to (ahem) play by ear when the time comes.
