gues's what

I had to go to a certain drug store the other day (a Sunday -- gasp!) and I saw a sign on their door:

Now hiring. Must be able to work:
-Night's
-Friday's
-Saturday's
-Sunday's
-Holiday's

Okay, this has gone too far.

Better yet:

Thi's ha's gone too far. Maybe all word's ending in the letter S should include apostrophe's. I mean, I've already resigned to the fact that I can't stop the word "text" from being a verb, but I see thi's apostrophe thing all over the place. Maybe instead of just having apostrophe's at the end of word's that end in S, we could put them with EVERY letter S. S'chool would be a fun time, es'pecially in s'pelling clas's'. Would we have to s'ay the word apos'trophe in s'pelling our word's? "M-I-S-apos'trophe-S-apos'trophe-I-S-apos'trophe-S-apos'trophe-I-P-P-I"? I know thi's all might s'eem a tad ridiculou's, but we all have our thing, and THI'S' i's' s'omething that really bug's me. You know who els'e it bug's? My brother, Jame's.

WHAT BUG'S YOU??

I liked when I saw a huge billboard that said "Congradulations Graduates!!"

The misuse of the apostrophe is one of my all-time biggest pet peeves.

With you on the 's thing and also crazy (but sometimes amused) over misplaced and dangling modifiers.

Verbs that are conjugated incorrectly. People who type with no capitals or puncuation. Football color commentators--they make the stupidest comments.

Have you read Eats, Shoots & Leaves by Lynee Truss? I love that it now comes with a "limited-edition Punctuation Repair Kit."

And Sue, chintz? You crack me up!

Other pet peeves:

irregardless
how my mom says "torlet" (dear mom, the "r" is silent)
The Daily Herald
did I mention the modifier thing?

OK, now I'm done finding excuses not to be getting ready for work.

...or is it excuses to not be getting ready...

Something like that anyway.

New Mr. Tia says ain't alot and it makes me cringe. And "it don't make no sense". Makes me really want to cry. I drove past KFC one time in February and saw a sign that said "Be Are Valentine". That warranted a phone call. Or should I say, I SEEN a sign?

This makes me as crazy as it seems to make you.

But the thing that sets me off like almost nothing else is a local business establishment that quasi-patriotically flies a dirty, tattered, ragged, tired American flag. That makes me want to knock some heads.

People. I may post about this (because I'm in a pissy mood today)... and all that grammar stuff... but I find I have on occasion screwed with the English language (one could argue it is so easy to do...and fun...). Oh, and I hate spiders - but they eat other bugs I don't like so... we're at an impasse.
