15 - Beans

For the month of November I’ve decided to post each day about a person or people who have influenced my life for good. There’s no way I could include each and every person in one month or even one year, and for that I hope you’ll forgive me. This year, especially, has brought an acute awareness of the kindness and generosity which surrounds me and my kids, so here’s one attempt at giving thanks.

15 – Beans

I know my sister like I know my own mind, you will never find anyone as trusting or as kind. #HAMILTON

I miss Beans. She lives in D.C. and just began a great career with Sysco. She’s also a kick-a massage therapist and bartender.

I got to spend some time with Beans when I was in D.C. a few years ago when it had been waaaaay too long since we’d seen each other, and I was struck by the fact that she and I share a voice. Really. I was looking at someone else’s face and hearing my own voice. WhatThe.

Beans drove up to our hometown in early July this year for just the few spare hours she had so that our family could be together—all of us, except my kids—for the first time in seven years. Amazing. During that time she drove with me to Erie so I could buy a new phone when I needed it (yes, had to drive 45 minutes away to get to a T-Mobile store, we grew up in the country, SO WHAT).

Beans is hilarious. Like, dare her to do something. Just do it. And she will. She’s so super fun. And kind. And thoughtful. This girl’s heart, I mean shooooot.

When we were little we would cut out coupons and talk about how when we grew up we were going to share an apartment and use those coupons to save on coffee and….well, mainly coffee, that’s what I remember.

Beans has been there for me, especially in the last year or so, in ways only a sister can. I can’t wait to spend time with her again.

Thanks, Beans. I love you.
