my li'l piece of the action/auction

Well, certainly by now you know about this:

Did you see that there's an auction?

Oh, yes.

Do you know who is working feverishly to organize the auction?

And me.

HERE'S THE SCOOP (pay attention!):

***The auction will begin next week, Friday, January 23rd, 2009, and the auction will be HERE, on this blog. It will begin as an online auction so that those who won't be able to make it to the concert can still participate as desired. The online auction will close on Monday, February 2nd, 2009, 3:pm MST. The maximum online bids will then be listed as the minimum live auction bids. ***

We have got some MAJOR prizes from many generous donors, and if you're interested in donating your goods and/or services, please email me (jennyeckton@gmail.com) (no yard sale items, please).

Don't forget to buy your tickets to the concert. And, for the locals: even if you're not going to the concert you can still attend the auction.

But just go to the concert. Hurry and buy your tickets!

this might be a dumb question but how do the online people win if they aren't at the live auction? i'm assuming they will be outbid.

nat - that is, in fact, an excellent question. Here is my attempt at an answer:

In reality, the online people could very well win. I know this because I've won quite a few items on this type of auction, and here's how I did it: I gave my absolute maximum bid online. That might seem over-simplified, but it's true. If you find something that you simply must have, don't play the one-dollar-more bidding game, bid your all! It could very well be the maximum bid after all.

Did that make sense? Seriously, if not, let me know.

Sarah Jane,

Thanks for the suggestions.

Since the live auction portion will be occurring on paper, and with the sheer volume of items we have for the auction, we've decided that it's just not practical to continue online during the live portion. Like I said before, though, online bidders can and do win (as I have done) at auctions such as this.

And the reason I didn't spell out shipping is because, unless otherwise stated (as in item #13, for example), the items will be shipped to the winners upon receipt of payment. Shipping won't be a worry of the winners.

I may have missed this answer along the way, but how will you notify the winner of each auction? My blog is private, so would I need to put my email, which I really don't want to do?

The Morgans - I will announce the winners on a blog post. Let me specify: Those who win and claim their prize at the Live Auction will be listed as "Live Winner", or something like that (they've already won, so no need to put their name on here). Those who have won online, however, will have their name and bid announced on this blog, at which point they will be instructed to email me to claim their prize -- no need to post personal information.

Great question.
