earnest in diva

When I woke up two mornings ago, this title was in my head, and I knew it should be the title of my next blog. I think it is a GREAT NAME for a blog entry.

But I didn't know what the blog entry should be about.

I thought that maybe it should be about my daughters, who are ALL divas.

But instead, I'll just say something about another topic relating to GREAT NAMES. And here it is:

I used to think that the best band name out there was Kool & The Gang. Think about it. Kool...and The Gang. But today it occurred to me that I may have a NEW favorite band name. And that is, Color Me Badd. Not great bands, per se, or at all; just great band names.

That is all.

Jenny,
You are the ultimate DIVA
I used to think of band names when I was young and my 2 other friends and I came up with "the Knarfs"
it is frank backwards. We used to call people "franks" instead of Wieners (because that was ALMOST a swear word)

Anytime you add an extra letter to a word that doesn't really need it--you have a great band name. Also, you seem to have the problem opposite of mine. I can always think of tons of meaningless content...it is the clever title I have a hard time with.

I love that you said your daughters are diva's. Don't the words go hand in hand? My little one LOVES the name Clara. She was really into the Nutcracker for awhile. One of the babies that tried to adopt, but ended up with the birthmother was going to be named Clara. :-)

My husband always wanted to have a band in high school called Twisted Dream. He thought it sounded cool. I guess from that you can tell we are children of the metal era...

Stephanie - I like your backwards theory. I suppose that's why I used to, and still to this day, refer to certain people as renobs.

Bek - In addition to the 'adding an extra letter' rule, adding the word 'twisted' also applies here, it think. Twisted Dream would have TOTALLY smashed White Snake, or White Lion, or any band that thought adding 'white' was the way to go. What about Twisted Donut?

At EHS (Go Aztecs) my favorite band name was "Centrifugal Forest." It would be an altie band. Other great non-existent names include: Citizen Dick (From Singles) and "Limozeen" (from Strong Bad.) Ricky has always said that his band would be named "The Waylon Smithers." On the other hand, the worst band name I can think of is "The Jetts." Amember them? (They are Mormons, so maybe they thought they coudn't have a cool name.)

I just realized that, along with band names there is also the way that the namd refers to itself that is cool--and my winner is "Boys 2 Men/ABC/BBD" or however it went in that fabulous Boys 2 Men song where they teamed up with Bel Biv Devoe.

Jen, didn't you once tell me that Waldo was in (or pretended to be in) a band called Cinco Jones? That's nothing short of hilarious (if you speak-a la espanol).

Cinco Jones y los Cool Arrows. They only did Selena cover songs. It was a fabulous time.

Kool. .. and the Gang! Yes! I was SOOOOO jealous when my older sister got to go to their concert!! Celebrate good times. . .Come on! I have two words for bad band names. . Spandau Ballet (I mean I love the song TRUE, especially from Sixteen Candles, but please, guys in a band with Ballet in the name??)

I prefer the version of True as sung by Steve Buscemi in The Wedding Singer.

Jimmy Eat World is a great band's name (have you heard the back story? So funny! I would re-tell but this is just a comment after all).
In high school my best friend Wendy came up with the band name "Brain Freeze".
I liked "Elda's Ironing" which has another funny back story, but, well, you know...

nope, i don't know the back story, but i'd like to...email me???

More Caffiene, Please said...

The Lucy Macs is a fave of mine. My great -grandma was the craziest, funkiest ladies you could ever meet. Wigs in all colors (even though her hair was jet black and down her back) and Mac was her hubby. For putting up with her, he should have a band named after him.

Excellent. Did Lucy tuck her hair up, or just leave it down her back with a wig on top?

And EHS? Why so many bands? The coolest band from my school (SWCS) was The Trojan Marching Band...good times.

Go Chelsea!
My favorite name will probably always be "Hanna's Outfit" (could it possibly be because it was inspired by my own little diva?)
She joined a band calling themselves "Buffalo Tatonka" but got kicked out because she was "too happy" and they were into emo.
Wonder where Hanna is now...

Hanna's Outfit was the bane of my existence. That was before I 1. knew better than to date a femmy boy in a band and 2. knew that I did not EVER have to go to band practice.

Anyone know the name of my very first band??
