phread

More than ten years ago, I acquired a nickname. I was a freshman in high school, taking a Gourmet Cooking class, and a senior (Jeff Borst - why do I remember that??) asked, "What's your name?" Looking around, I counted seven other Jennifers in that classroom. Seven. So I told Jeff, "It's Jenny, but you can call me whatever you want." And he called me Fred. My good pal Matthew was sitting next to me at the time, and he helped this name stick. Over the next few months, it was decided, mainly by my good pal Matthew, that the conventional spelling just wouldn't do for me, and F-R-E-D was morphed into P-H-R-E-A-D. When being introduced, it was: "This is Phread; P-h-r-e-a-d...as in bread." The bread thing was thrown in there after too many people asked about the "a". Phread was how I introduced myself in so many different scenarios...and people remembered me. The girl named Phread. Phread from New York. Even now, I can identify myself as Phread and no further explination is needed - a helpful tool when getting into contact with long lost friends, like my good pal Matthew.

Mine used to be Lexi. When working at a hotel in WA I would often get tongue-tied and say things backwards: "Please bread the pass" or "How would you pay like to?" Looking back I might've been channeling Yoda but my cute friend with freckles, Tania (pronounced Tanya), decided that I had a rare form of dyslexia that caused me to mix entire words, not just letters. When she would explain where my nickname originated people would feel sorry for me that I had such a mean friend. Too bad it didn't benefit me financially; just in sympathetic looks. ...Shannon (my real name)

I stalked Stephanie Aurora for a while...going so far as to visit them at the hospital burn unit on the 2 year anniversary of the crash. I think I freaked them a tiny bit. But I still adore her, and I think you are lucky to be living in Provo with so many wonderful women around there. I'm looking forward to the rooftop concert next week...I discovered Mindy Gledhill about 2 months ago and can't get enough of her music. Who knew my musical tastes would finally start evolving after being stuck in the 80's my whole life?!

Oh yeah, I came her in the first place to tell you I loved the story of your nickname. And now I should take the advice of my Word Verification, which is "distesest", which I believe is a cross between "detest" and "cease and desist"...meaning I should probably have stopped a long time ago. ♥
