19 - Ames

For the month of November I’ve decided to post each day about a person or people who have influenced my life for good. There’s no way I could include each and every person in one month or even one year, and for that I hope you’ll forgive me. This year, especially, has brought an acute awareness of the kindness and generosity which surrounds me and my kids, so here’s one attempt at giving thanks.

19 – Ames

Ames is one of the very best. I love when people who know him make the connection that I also know him; inevitably they say, “I love him!”

We met when we were in a show together two years ago (remember the instagram pics from onstage during the show? If not, search #InTheHeightsHCTO), though I’m confused as to how we didn’t already know each other. He's kind and sincere, and I’m as glad now as I was then to count him amongst my friends.

Though we don’t see each other nearly as often as I’d like, I’m always grateful for when I do run into him, and especially when I get to see him perform. He gave tickets to my family for a show at the beginning of the summer, and going to the show was a lot of fun. Seeing Ames on stage is always a treat, no matter the venue or show style.

Earlier this year he’d send me random messages, very simple, but exactly what I needed to hear. Things like, “Hey—you’re real pretty.” Simple enough, right? But in the moment I read those messages from him (they came regularly) I couldn’t hold back tears.

Now that I think of it, Ames and I each have been through a ridiculous amount in the past two years. I’m so grateful for his smile and love and friendship and happy attitude. (And? He makes a mean piragua.)

Thanks, Ames. I love you.

I love random messages from people I really, really like. They're the best. Yay for Ames!
