#GivingTuesday 2013

Did you have a nice Thanksgiving? I hope you did. Ours was nice, just our little family enjoying our steak (turkey is wasted on my people) and side dishes, along with pie and birthday cake for my husband.

I didn't go early-morning shopping on Black Friday, but I did stop at one store for a few hours in the early afternoon and got some great deals.

Small Business Saturday for us meant supporting some of our favorites, and by favorites I mean a donut shop, a drive-through flavored pop stand, and Indian food.

Today is Cyber Monday, and I'll be looking for some deals on certain somethings I can't mention (what if my kids read my blog?) (uh, WHAT IF MY KIDS READ MY BLOG?!).

And then there's tomorrow. Did you know that tomorrow is Giving Tuesday? I wrote about #GivingTuesday last year, and I'm excited that it's happening again this year.

Mission Statement
#GivingTuesday™ is a campaign to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations.

#GivingTuesday is a day for giving back. It celebrates what we all want this season to be about, what this season should be reminds us, ultimately, what this season IS

#GivingTuesday is a movement, not an entity that accepts donations. It's about donating elsewhere, wherever you'd like to donate. It's sponsored by the 92nd Street Y in New York City, and has a host of organizations as partners.

As for myself, I am not a wealthy organization, but I'm still a part of #GivingTuesday, and you can be, too. If you stop to think about it, you're likely already giving, whether it's of your money or your time. Take a minute to talk with your children about what it means to volunteer time at a local food kitchen, or drop off some new clothes and blankets at the nearby women's shelter. They, and you, will begin to see that opportunities for giving abound.

On Tuesday, share what you're doing by using the hashtag #GivingTuesday. This spreads the word, shares the spirit of giving back. Join the #GivingTuesday community online and check to see if there are any group service projects in your area.

**If you've got plans for #GivingTuesday I'd love to hear about them here in the comments section or on my blog's facebook page!
