I’ve been on a kind of mission to provide a more varied menu for my family. Why? Because I’ve learned a lot about eating this year, and one important aspect I’ve learned – and love – is that part of eating should be enjoyed which means, at times, you guessed it: treats. Whether desserts after dinner or treats throughout the day, we’ve been able to enjoy sweet tastes regularly. Our most favorite desserts involve COOL WHIP whipped topping.
My own personal favorite way to use COOL WHIP is on top of pancakes. That’s right, I eat COOL WHIP for breakfast. As a substitute for syrup, and along with fruit, COOL WHIP is a perfect way to have a sweet treat in the morning.
All of my kids, but especially my youngest daughter, drink cocoa each morning, even during the summer. The youngest, who is four years old, prefers drinking it with a straw. I can put a spoonful of COOL WHIP on top and my kids feel like they’ve got the greatest mom in the world.
Of course, we also use COOL WHIP in more a more traditional way: as a topping to our favorite desserts. Thick brownies are made that much better with COOL WHIP on top.
With five kids, we get a lot of different preferences as far as what we should have for dessert, but most everyone wants to add COOL WHIP to whatever it is we decide to enjoy. Smoothies, milk shakes, ice cream, you name it: COOL WHIP makes it better. Not to mention the times I’ve walked in on the kids eating it straight with a spoon (did you do this as a kid? Or as an adult? Please tell me you’ve done this.).
COOL WHIP also plays a role at my house as an ingredient in one of my favorite dessert recipes:
1 C. graham cracker crumbs
½ C. melted butter
2 T. sugar
1 C. powdered sugar
8 oz. cream cheese
1 can Berry pie filling (your preferred flavor)
1 small tub COOL WHIP
~ Mix melted butter with graham cracker crumbs and granulated sugar; spread in bottom of 9x13 pan
~ Beat powdered sugar with cream cheese; fold in COOL WHIP and continue to beat until smooth; spread over crumb layer
~ Top with pie filling
~ Chill at least 2 hours; serve cold
