people have been asking me...

How's Bubby?

my answer: Fine, and thank you. His rash is completely gone. He had his hearing test, and he has partial hearing loss in both ears, so we are working with more specialists, getting more tests, to see if this can be corrected surgically or if he'll need hearing aids. I'll let you know.

When are you due?

my answer: Who cares.

How are you feeling?

my answer: Awesome. (or, like complete crap. I can't eat or sleep. Try it.)

How old are you now?

my answer: 30. Again. Look, after last year's celebrations, I don't need any sort of anything to celebrate my birthday.

How many kids is this for you?

my answer: Six. This is number six. If you count, you'll only see five. That's because one is in heaven. We count him.

Six? Six kids?

my answer: Yes.

Are you ready for the baby?

my answer: Ready? If by ready you mean have clothes washed and diapers ready and some sort of a "nursery" set up or a carseat clean or even figured out how all the kids will fit into our vehicle, then my answer is no.

What do you think about epidurals?

my answer: Would you have your wisdom teeth removed without medication?

Are your kids excited about the baby?

my answer: Yes. In fact [enter controversy], two of them will be with me to witness their sister coming into the world.

Do you have a name picked out?

my answer: Yes. But the middle name is still up-for-grabs.**

**this is an invitation to play the naming game. For the last time.

Had a dream last night that I was going to have four more kids. But dreams aren't revelations ;)

Yay for epidurals :)

Jack watched his sister enter into this world. We watched A Baby Story on TLC enough that the birth wasn't even a big deal. He woke from his nap, daddy brought him to the hospital and within 15 minutes his sister arrived. Wouldn't change a thing!

Henrietta (I've got a thing for "Henry" lately)

jennysixteena

something French (or Frenchie)

Lastone or Caboose (I'm sure she wouldn't be the only one in Utah with that middle name)

Angelina (I think she's hot and your baby will be too)

Joi (because J-O-Y is too obvious)

Chuck

Happy Belated Birthday, as well! And you were so on top of my birthday. Shucks.

I like Myra. Or Olive.

Question: do you think child birth is anywhere similar to having your teeth pulled on the scale of life sacred events and therefore cannot be compared?

Sherry said...

I don't have any kids, so take this for what it's worth (not much). I'm TOTALLY with you on getting an epidural. In fact, any time I injure myself below the waist, I ask my husband if I can have one. He doesn't have the power to give me one, so I never get it. But, by golly, when I have a baby coming out of me, there will be an epidural!

And, I think it's pretty cool that your kids will get to be there for your new baby's birth. Really. I think it is so cool! And, I don't think you would do it unless you felt like it would be good for you and your family. What works for some doesn't necessarily work for others.

lucky - I always love your suggestions. jennysixtina. tee hee!

tori - Thank you! And happy birthday to Izzy.

i i eee - Myra! I haven't heard that one in so long.

m & j - you win!

l.q. - good one! You're so smart! I'll tell you this much: I didn't have my kids there to watch me get my wisdom teeth removed. It would have been too much. Thanks for reading!

sherry - yes, and YES. What works for some doesn't necessarily work for others. I take it back from m&j: YOU win!

leading questioner (anonymous giver of advice--the best kind!) I'm sure she's never thought of the sacredness of childbirth. I mean, she's only had five children and adores them to no end. Good thing to just "check in," though. Totally necessary to play devil's advocate at this point in her pregnancy.

I can't figure out if leading questioner is being cheeky or serious...

I'm with you on epidural... totally...and very cool that the sisters can be there. I swear when a baby comes into the world - angels are there... so how cool to be in that special moment where heaven and earth meet.

I feel retarded... Happy BELATED b-day.

hawaiian names:
Alamea - precious, whole
Kamea - precious one
Keona - God's gracious gift
Nohealani - beauty from heaven

native american names:
Aiyana - eternal blossom
Kanti - sings
Etenia - rich

I love names and meanings... just fun to look at baby names. Don't get the wrong idea! ;-) heheh I'm actually interested in what you're going to nickname the new little lady. You give fantastic nicknames. But...I also do want to know the real first name. Can't wait!!!

I'm voting for Pollyanna.

Nicole...as in Kidman because she's from Australia. or Heath, or Naomi, or Russell. OK maybe not Russell.

Lisa V. Thank you. You said it so much better than what I was thinking.

As you know, I think it is going to be a trip to have the sisters in the room. Awesome.

(Come to think of it, I saw my niece born when I was 20 and the only thing I remember was the perfect chocolate donut I was eating as the whole thing occurred.)

Have donuts in the delivery room. There, that is my advice.

Rynell said...

I just love controversy.

How 'bout a middle name with a little meaning? For example, look at a calendar and figure out the closest holiday to the date you conceived. You could have middle names such as Freedom, Noel, Amor, Gratitude, Ghost, Irish.... there you go. ;)

Well, nevermind, just stick with Henrietta and arrange for someone bring YOU donuts after the delivery.

Anonymous said...

Yes, please, a middle name with some meaning... because NONE OF YOUR CHILDRENS' NAMES MEAN ANYTHING.

And you know what I'm going to say for a middle name for the baby.

Although I like when curly and superstar say Atchafalaya.

Monica said...

i can't believe you are going to let your kids watch you have a baby.

i'd ask if i could come, but that'd be even WEIRDER!!!

[of course weirder is a word - I'm in law school, I know what is and what is not a word]

Monica said...

oh yeah - middle name: sacred teeth

i know, it's kind of long; but it's way more inspiring than a middle name like 'childbirth'

I'm changing my mind. I really like jennysixteena. Good job lucky.

You know lucky picked out my name as wll.

Bubby--awesome

due date at least closer--awesome.

feeling--awesome. Just keep saying it.

being 31--awesome.

six kids--awesome.

being ready for the baby--whatever, babies just need a momma, and you're awesome.

epidurals--awesome.

your girls being there--awesome. (I've actually considered this myself.)

Sue as a middle name--awesome.

You could always answer each question with "Unbelievable!" How are you feeling? "Unbelievable!" How is the preparation coming for the new baby? "Unbelievable!"

I need a first name to suggest a good middle name. And since I was the winner for baby #5, you know I gots the goods. ;-)

Gerb said...

If Bubby's hearing loss requires any learning of sign language, I live close by and would love to share what I know!

I'm with you on epidurals - I will sing their praises all my days.

Carina said...

I love that the girls will be there for the delivery, LOVE IT. We have divorced childbirth from regular life and that's sad, we should know how it happens.

You definitely need a middle name that means something, for a change.

Seven?
Hundred?
Million?

Those mean something quantifiable, which is, you know, important.

Nevaeh? It's Heaven spelled backwards you know.

lvc - I love having you on my side. We who mother five must stick together.

queen - thanks for the name suggestions. I love hearing which names other people love. (ps - I'll email you the name.)

sue - that's seriously what I say. People aren't as quick to laugh at it.

sue-do - How about Aboriginie? Or Crocodile Hunter? Or shark?

cj - donuts. Noted.

rynell - I don't really even have the dates right (we're going on ultrasound measurements), so who knows? I mean, I know I could do the math, but math's hard. On the other hand, I like your suggestion that I stick with Henrietta.

beans - are you also voting for mcChickanichol?

Hey Noony, I try not to notice birthdays after 29...it's the whole getting old thing...not so awesome. I hope your b-day was great and that things are going well at home. I love you mucho.

~j. said...

m&j - yeah. Having you there would just be grosser. And I'm liking Sacred Teeth...isn't that Cherokee? The thing about my sacred teeth being removed is that I had valium, so it just wasn't the kind of spiritual experience I had been hoping for.

sue-do - the more I say it (jennysixtina) the more I like it.

wendy - isn't that what it's all about? by the way, I think your girls would LOVE to be there (have they talked about it at all?)...I'm sure I'll be letting you know how our experience goes.

swampbaby - If I say "Unbelievable" it could very well morph into "Inconceivable" which is not only annoying, it just doesn't make sense. Although, it IS certainly all very, very unbelievable at this point, I have to admit.

gerb - I would love that. I know our husbands discussed it a bit last night. I'll have to call you soon because I do have a few questions.

shuge - what does 'quantifiable' mean? (math's hard) Heaven backwards...jeez.

kuu - where have you been all my life? Can't wait to talk soon.

wait, does this mean that curly will NOT be able to keep bubby's brain?
bummer.
hang in there j :)

Hey, I actually knew 3 people back home with kids named Neveah. Notice I said KNEW, not "was friends with". And also ran into a lady who had a new baby every time I saw her. Her latest last I knew was Neves. Seven backwards. Seventh child, born on the seventh day, in the seventh minute of the seventh hour and the hospital room had the number seven in it somewhere. I think he was seven pounds, and seven ounces as well.

And no, I think the middle name should be beans.

Just caught this comment thread and I am DYING. I actually love the middle name Jennysixteena!! Perfect, but I will stick with Skeletor!!

As for the leading questioner, get over yourself. I saw CJane make a comment on Segulla about how "some people" compare childbirth to "dental work". Um, yeah. It is kind of like that. I guess you could take it from someone who has done it multiple times.

I just want to punch them all in the face and tell them to mind their own business, ya know? Not CJane, just those (annon--I am talking to you) who feel the need to comment on how you must be doing it wrong. YOu should hear the conversations in the adoption community. It blows my mind that others feel the need to tell you that you are wrong! I love the hospital and think that since you are a big girl, you can make your own choices. Besides, where would you get that great ice? Honestly.

I think having the girls there is fine. I would NEVER do it w/ Lu b/c she would never stop talking and I would be really annonyed with having to manage her... it was bad enough that I had to have other people there. I just want to be quiet and not worry about anyone else... so GOOD for you. So, not because I didn't want her to see it, but because it would not be a good thing for me.

Frankly, by the time you are pushing that kid out, you could be in a football stadium and it wouldn't matter. I had 4 peds, two nurses, my ob, my husband, the three med students that follwed my preganancy and other people there... Didn't care at all (and I thought I would)... I saw Jacob being born and it was amazing.

GOOD LUCK to the whole family as you get closer and closer!!

Leading Questioner, you will never get a baby middle-named after you with that kind of an attitude.
